Capitals Secure Victory Over Islanders
Aliaksei Protas netted two goals for the Washington Capitals in their 4-2 victory against the New York Islanders in Elmont, NY. The Capitals took an early lead with Martin Fehervary scoring just 1:50 into the game, followed by Protas doubling the lead later in the first period. Ryan Leonard added another goal in the second, while Protas sealed his performance with a second goal before the period ended. The Islanders, struggling with an 0-2 start for the first time since the 2021-22 season, managed to score twice in the latter stages of the game with Anthony Duclair and rookie Matthew Schaefer both finding the net. Despite the Islanders' efforts, including a power-play goal from Duclair and Schaefer's first NHL goal, they couldn't overcome the Capitals' lead. Goalie Logan Thompson made 34 saves for Washington, while Ilya Sorokin recorded 25 saves for New York.
